I’ve already upgraded by laptop to Ubuntu 10.04. Strange, no problems at all. My friend wasn’t so lucky, his laptop doesn’t boot after the upgrade, now he uses Vista. This kind of problems I had last time. There were problems with drivers for my graphic card so I had to take new kernel and drivers from some unstable Ubuntu branch.
Now it just works, nice.

Unfortunatelly it is my laptop. After several attempts of different advice from ubuntuforums I found drivers on nvidia website and after installation of them almost everything started working. “Almost” because now I have got problem with evince (it throws “Segmentation fault” when I try to open *.pdf) and several other minor problems.
I am using 64-bit version of Ubuntu with several changes (i.e. compiz with global menu and avant window manager) and those can be source of my problems. And the source of troubles is also my laptop: Dell Latitiude D630C especially graphics card NVidia NVS135M, but this hardware works good under Windows Vista – any problems.
I think it will soon start to work OK when spend some time but I do not advice any beginners to make such upgrade or trying to use ubuntu. This kind of system is for passionate people.
